Abstract

The Maine Responder, the 208-foot oil-response vessel berthed in Portland, yesterday demonstrated its operations during a drill in Casco Bay. The Responder is one of 16 oil-spill response vessels in the country owned by the Marine Spill Response Corp., which was established by 23 oil transportation companies to fulfill requirements of the federal Oil Pollution Act of 1990. The vessel is capable of vacuuming up 84,000 gallons of oily water per hour. Details.
