Abstract

Tourism in Maine is primarily a summer industry, with 33 percent of all taxable hotel revenue being generated in July and August. The tourism industry and the state government are trying to change that, and have embarked on a campaign to lure tourists to the state during months usually associated with cold weather. The campaign's goal is to make tourism, the state's second-largest industry, less seasonal and more economically powerful. Details.
