Abstract

Tourism officials say visitors from the Mid-Atlantic states and Western Europe are helping to make up for a decline in Canadian tourists, many of whom are staying home because of the unfavorable exchange rates. Predictions are that this could be a moderately good season for Maine's $2.75 billion tourism industry, the state's largest employer. Some Americans, however, are bypassing the state and heading to Canada, since the dollar buys more there than usual. Details.
