Abstract

Central Maine Power Co.'s annual meeting yesterday attracted around 1,000 shareholders, many of them angry that the company's stock fell 50 percent last year, its dividends were cut, its credit rating was reduced and layoffs were deeper than during the Depression. A move by executives to push through the election of three incumbent directors to new three-year terms resulted in the shareholders jeering the directors and accusations that the meeting was being held in an undemocratic fashion.
