Abstract
Justice William S. Brodick yesterday sentenced George Gatcomb Jr., 44, to 15 years in prison for having twice raped his cellmate at the Maine Correctional Center in Windham in 1992. He is the first prisoner in Maine to be convicted of having raped another inmate. Gatcomb, who is called an "animal" by state prison authorities, threatened prosecutor Stephanie Anderson, to whom he said, "If I had a chance I'd rip your heart out and eat it in front of your face. . . . You're dead." Articles profiles Gatcomb's violent and dangerous background.
