Abstract

The Department of Energy has awarded the Maine Metal Products Association a $500,000 grant for an "environmentally conscious" manufacturing project designed to help defense companies. The metal products industry is Maine's second largest manufacturing sector, with over 400 firms, of which 80 are defense contractors. Through the grant 50 small to medium defense companies will receive technical assistance and instuction on manufacturing processes. They will also receive help on compliance with evironmental regulations and product development.
