Abstract

One in an occasional series of articles on "The Science of Maine Life." Black flies, a fact of life in Maine, have been out since the beginning of May, and will be around at least through the end of June. There are between 40 and 45 species of black flies native to Maine, but only a few like to feast on humans. Details.
