Abstract
The town of Kennebunk spent $700,000 to close the 15-acre Sea Road municipal dump in the mid-1980s, and will now be able to recoup a very small portion of the money. Henry LaBrie, 47, of Kennebunkport, recently bid $200 to harvest the hay that has grown over the closed dump, and since he was the only bidder he was given the haying rights. Sherry Huber, director of the Maine Waste management Agency, says growing hay is one of the more novel uses she has heard of for a closed dump. Details.
