Abstract

"Reporters' Notebook" piece reporting that the flagpole at Portland High School has a new top. George Pitts, Class of 1929, now a resident of New Castle, N.H., has given the school an eagle that he carved out of white pine. Pitts spends around 350 hours on each eagle, and has carved more than 80 of them.
