Abstract

The Maine Alliance Foundation, Maine Economic Conversion Project, Coastal Enterprises, and the Maine Science and Technology Foundation, yesterday sponsored "From Defense to Offense," a conference on defense conversion at the State Theatre in Portland. Those attending were advised not to place too much reliance on federal programs to make conversion work but to develop as many local and private assistance programs and funding sources as possible. The event is the first step in a Maine Science and Technology Foundation Project to provide smaller manufacturing firms across the state with technical, marketing, financial and management assistance in trying to survived military spending cuts.
