Abstract

Members of the Maine congressional delegation yesterday announced that the Navy has awarded the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard three submarine contracts for work to be done over the next three years. Senator George Mitchell said he believes the contracts give the yard a leg up in the next round of base closings, because Portsmouth will remain the only yard with experience refueling Los Angeles-class subs.
