Abstract

This week, Portland police are taking the time to stop commuters on outer Washington Ave. and to hand out leaflets warning them to slow down. Next week, speeders should be prepared to receive speeding tickets if they exceed the speed limit, which was reduced six weeks ago from 30 mph to 25 mph. A police survey found that the average speed on outer Washington Avenue was 34 mph, with some cars going more than 45 mph.
