Abstract

This week's sinking of the passenger ferry the MS Estonia in the Baltic Sea is raising questions about the rescue capabilities for the Gulf of Maine. The U.S. Coast Guard, Casco Bay Lines, Prince of Fundy Cruises, the Portland Fire Department, the Portland International Jetport and Southern Maine Emergency Medical Services are developing a contingency plan for disaster response in Casco Bay. The Scotia Prince, which runs between Portland and Nova Scotia, carries up to 1,500 on some trips. Details.
