Abstract

Rock climbers have discovered that the cliffs at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth are some of the best in southern Maine for climbing, and Town Manager Michael McGovern wants the town council to sharply restrict the activity in the park. The Climbers Alliance of Maine is negotiating with McGovern about his proposed policy, which would specifically prohibit climbing at Portland Head Light, one of the park's two most popular cliffs. The Maine Municipal Association has advised Cape Elizabeth that it cannot be held liable for accidents that might occur while individuals are climbing. Details.
