Abstract

A national survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that in 1990, 20 percent or 415,226 of all deaths nationally, were caused by smoking. Only eight other states in the nation had more smoking-related deaths per capita than did Maine. For every 100,000 deaths in Maine, 389.4 resulted from smoking-related causes. Of all deaths in Maine 21.4 percent can be attributed to smoking. Details.
