Abstract

The U.S. Navy on Friday nominated Bath Iron Works for a Department of Defense Value Engineering Achievement Award for saving the Navy more than $36 million in the cost of fasteners and glue. BIW was the winner over three other contracts nationwide for the award, which recognizes money-saving ideas submitted by defense contractors and military personnel. The shipbuilder was responsible for 21 of the 33 cost-saving proposals accepted by the Navy in 1993. Details.
