Abstract

The Maine Bureau of Health yesterday shut down the Limerick water system, after tests revealed the presence of more than 25 hazardous chemicals. The chemicals were presumably washed into a shallow well that feeds the system during a June 10 fire that destroyed part of the historic Limerick Mill building. The National Guard trucked in water for residents, and water from Sokokis Lake was going to be used to flush out the system. Details.
