Abstract

Maine Medical Center and more than 250 doctors in the Portland Community Physicians' Organization have formed a non-profit Physician-Hospital Organization to compete for business in the growing field of managed health care. The organization combines a broad range of primary and specialty doctors with a large community and teaching hospital, and will negotiate contracts with employers and insurance companies for patient care based on annual fees.
