Abstract

Maine Medical Center and Brighton Medical Center this week will begin a formal process that could lead to a merger of the two hospitals. A proposed merger between Brighton, Maine Medical and Mercy Hospital broke down when Mercy objected to a continuation of reproductive health services by the other two hospitals. State and federal regulators would have to consider whether the merger of the two hospitals will create a health-care monopoly that will control consumer prices. Details.
