Abstract

Craig McLaughlin, a bear biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, says that a scarcity of food last fall forced bears into dens early, and unless there is an early and abundant berry crop this year Mainers can expect to see more hungry bears prowling for food in late June and early July. Biologists have been trapping bears in three areas in the state and fitting them with radio collars to track their movements. Details, related article.
