Abstract
Northeast Airlines halted its commuter service last week, and as the only commuter airline serving Augusta its demise spelled the end of scheduled air service to the state's capital. Airports in Waterville and Frenchville have also lost scheduled air service within the last five years, and Bar Harbor and Rockland would have if the federal government didn't subsidize flights to those two towns. One of the major problems that Maine's small airports face is that people traveling within the state will often use their automobiles, even if they are going relatively long distances. Details.
