Abstract

Shawn Mabry, 26, was 16 when he and two companions threw Charlie Howard, 23, of New Hampshire, off a bridge spanning the Kenduskeag Stream in Bangor, causing Howard's death and drawing national attention to crimes against homosexuals. Mabry, Jim Baines and Daniel Ness pleaded guilty to reduced charges of manslaughter, and were sent to the Maine Youth Center. Mabry spent 22 months at the center, and says he has felt guilty every day since Howard's death. Details.
