Abstract

The Greater Portland United Way collected $5,854,617 during its 1993-94 campaign, including $80,366 for the Pine Tree Council of the Boy Scouts, which lost its funding two years ago in a dispute over the Scouts' ban on homosexuals. The local United Way added a donor choice option on its pledge cards for this year's campaign, and $1,096,910 was pledged directly to non-profits.
