Abstract

Brian Beal, an assistant professor of marine biology at the University of Maine at Machias, will use a $77,000 grant from the National Marine Fisheries Service to study why clam production in Washington County has declined 90 percent in ten years. Beal and Steven Flegley, a researcher at the Maine Maritime Academy, will compare six clam flats in Washington County with six in Cumberland County. The project will begin in February 1995 and is projected to take a year to complete. Details, related article.
