Abstract

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was formed in 1987 with 25 officers, and by 1990 had nearly 70. The agency will lose at least six agents June 24 because it has a debt of $750,000, $669,000 of which is owed to police departments that provided loaned officers. Roger Stricker, agency director, is hoping the loss of men is temporary, and wants to have at least 40 paid agents on the force again next year. Details.
