Abstract

Angus King, 50, independent candidate for governor, is a self-described fiscal conservative and social moderate, but most Mainers seem to know little about his views on specific issues. King has written a 132-page book with details on some of his proposals, which include cutting the state workforce by 20 percent over four years; cutting $5 million from the state Department of Education and $2 million from the University of Maine System's chancellor's office; and ending state funding for the University of Maine law school.
