Abstract

The Diversity Leadership Institute is a statewide student group that promotes harmony by teaching people to respect another person's differences and enjoy their similarities. The Portland Police Department and the Holocaust Human Rights Center of Maine created the program in 1992, and 20 Maine high schools now have DLI chapters. The National League of Cities last December recognized the program as one of seven criminal justice programs nationwide to feature a creative solution to problem solving. Details.
