Abstract

The weak Canadian dollar and a recession in that country are being blamed for the worst tourist season in Old Orchard Beach in recent memory. The U.S. Customs Service reports a 30 percent decrease in the number of private Canadian cars crossing into Maine this year from the same period last year. Some motel and hotel owners in Old Orchard say business is down as much as 50 percent over last year. Details.
