Abstract

The Maine Board of Environmental Protection yesterday adopted a measure that is expected to reduce smokestack emissions of nitrogen oxide by 10 to 30 percent and bring Maine into compliance with federal air quality standards for ozone by 1996. The new regulation limits nitrogen oxide emissions based on the size of the boiler and the type of fuel used, and requires industry in the seven Maine counties with severe pollution to reduce emissions from oil-fired burners by 30 percent.
