Abstract

Paul K. Petzoldt, 86, of Raymond, has abandoned his attempt to scale the 14,000-foot Grand Teton mountain in Wyoming. Petzoldt was marking the 70th anniversary of his first ascent of the mountain in 1924, but freezing weather and eyesight problems forced him to turn back after he reached an elevation of more than 11,000 feet. Petzoldt is credited with pushing the Wilderness Act of 1964 through Congress and founding the National Outdoor Leadership School. Details.
