Abstract

A Maine Yankee opinion poll indicates that 48 percent of respondents favor keeping the nuclear power plant operational after its scheduled closing in 2008. The plant is currently shut down due to a July 15 leak in the steam generation system. The Committee for a Safe Energy Future is questioning Maine Yankee's scheduled mid-August reopening, saying the plant is unsafe because of the corrosion in steam lines.
