Abstract

A Maine Department of Transportation dump truck yesterday slammed broadside into a 1980 Ford Tempo at the intersection of U.S. Route 201 and state Route 43 in Madison, killing the five teenagers in the Ford. The five Madison High School students, all residents of Athens, were on their way to school when the accident occurred. The car carrying the victims was turning from Route 43 onto U.S. Route 201, and tire marks show that the dump truck skidded for around 70 feet before hitting the car. Details.
