Abstract

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection yesterday said it is reviewing a proposal from the Natural Resources Council of Maine to establish a registry so companies can keep track of credits for reductions in industrial, automobile and residential emissions. The DEP has developed a similar plan, and similar programs are operating in California, New York and other states. Industries in Maine are now free to swap credits among themselves, while the state is trying to develop air emission credit rules. Details.
