Abstract

The SS Jeremiah O'Brien, launched at the New England Shipbuilding Corp. in South Portland in 1943, is the only Liberty ship that participated in the 1944 D-Day landings in Normandy that is still sailing. The O'Brien is scheduled to arrive in Portland Harbor tomorrow morning, and will be berthed at the Maine State Pier until August 15. The 441.5-foot ship, which has a top speed of 11 knots and a 21,000-mile range, is currently berthed in San Francisco. Details.
