Abstract

Larry Adlerstein in late 1992 purchased the 35,000-square-foot Carr Brothers building on Commercial Street in Portland for $225,000, and spent more on renovating the building than he paid for it. James Gilbert last fall renovated a century-old warehouse building at 92 Commercial Street into Gilbert's Chowder House. Both buildings had been vacant for years, and the renovation of the two buildings and three others on Commercial Street is being heralded by some observers as the revitilization of the area.
