Abstract

Long article outlining the history and local impact of South Portland's East and West yards, which combined to form the New England Shipbuilding Corp., which employed 30,000 workers and built 236 Liberty ships for use during World War II. Today, Edward Langlois, a former shipyard employee, wants to memoralize the site of the yard with a monument and a museum. His goals are supported by South Portland city officials, who have been working for years to improve and revitalize the old shipyard area. Details.
