Abstract

Despite lots of talk last spring by University of Southern Maine administrators about the need for creative scheduling in order to combat declining enrollments, Professor Charles M. Lyons, who has taught Saturday classes for years, finds that he is still virtually the only faculty member who will be doing so next year. The fall schedule remains much as it was. Friday afternoons and evenings and weekends remain as quiet as before, and Lyons contends that the university should be operating on a seven-day-a-week schedule to meet the demands of the large number of non-traditional students who attend the university.
