Abstract

Patrick McDonough, 2, of Wells, has had an enormous impact on the National Marrow Donor Program, according to the manager of donor recruitment at Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Six donor drives have been held throughout New England in the boy's name since the call went out in January for a bone marrow donor, producing 3,000 names of potential donors for the national registry. No perfect match was found for Patrick, but he underwent a transplant in April. A test last week showed that the cancer had returned. Details.
