Abstract

The U.S. Congress this week passed a $30 billion crime bill, under which Maine could receive funding more than $71 million for law-enforcement agencies, prisons, shelters and other agencies. Many in Maine's law enforcement community, including the chiefs of police of the state's two largest cities, are somewhat skeptical of the federal promise of funds, and say they will reserve final judgment on the bill until they see how the money is appropriated.
