Abstract

In an effort to break the town's almost total dependence on tourism, Old Orchard Beach town officials have developed a vision of the community that would combine a bustling, pedestrian-friendly downtown near the beach, with a new 185-acre industrial zone west of Smithwheel Road near the the Maine Turnpike spur. The ideas have been rolled up into a 150-page zoning proposal that will be aired at a hearing before the Planning Board next month.
