Abstract

Some foresters are concerned that the hemlock logs on Commercial Street in Portland will lose some of their economic value if they are not moved fairly soon. A spokesperson for S.D. Warren, which owns the logs, said there is no concern that the logs are rotting, and said that hemlock has a shelf life of a couple of years. Some of the logs are losing their bark, prompting the concern about their deterioration. Details.
