Abstract

U.S. represenative Thomas H. Andrews, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, on Sunday said he would vote to close the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and the Brunswick Naval Air Station if an independent commission made such a recommendation after a fair hearing. Andrews said he would make the strongest possible case to keep the bases open and would monitor the federal Base Closure and Realignment Commission to ensure that the process was not flawed.
