Abstract

Most political observers in Maine agree that any successful polticial campaign has to have a large amount of cash, much of which must be spent on television advertising. Jonathan Carter, the gubernatorial candidate for the Maine Greens party, is hoping to win a statewide election while being outspent by a factor of 10-1. Carter is limiting himself to spending $100,000, a budget that includes no money for TV ads. Democratic candidate Joseph Brennan plans to spend up to $1.5 million, as does independent Angus King, while Republican Susan M. Collins plans to spend up to $1 million. Details.
