Abstract

University of Maine at Orono President Frederick E. Hutchinson yesterday acknowledged that problems within the school's athletic department are having a negative impact on the school's image. He emphasized, however, that he views the problems as a series of mistakes. The university on Monday admitted to violations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's athlete eligibility rules, and will announce today how many of the school's athletes will be sidelined because of the violations.
