Abstract
James Kaler, a machinist, worked a lathe that formed the shaft of the USS Drexler, which was launched 50 years ago tomorrow. Kaler later joined the U.S. Navy, and was among the 158 men who died when the Drexler sank on May 28, 1945, after a Japanese kamikaze attack off Okinawa. Kaler will be remembered tomorrow by his widow, Laurada Barter, who will toss a wreath into the Kennebec River.
