Abstract

The University of Maine at Orono yesterday barred nine athletes from participating in this weekend's opening games because of violations of National Collegiate Athletic Association regulations. The university declined to name the students or the sports in which they participate, citing federal laws protecting student privacy. The university reviewed the transcripts of 218 athletes involved in eight fall sports after discovering it was not in compliance with NCAA rules. Details.
