Abstract

An early northeaster yesterday barreled counterclockwise out of the Gulf of Maine, coming ashore with 50-mph wind gusts and dumping 1 1/4 inches of rain on Portland by 8 P.M. Southbound traffic on the Maine Turnpike was slowed for hours by the storm, and the U.S. Coast Guard was searching for a sailboarder who was reported in distress off of Old Orchard Beach. Details.
