Abstract

Concerned Maine Citizens, the anti-gay-rights group, last month submitted petitions to the Maine Secretary of State seeking a referendum on homosexual rights in Maine, and there are currently three other petition drives under way in the state. The intitiatieve petition is increasingly becoming a part of the political process in the state, and while some observers wonder if the initiative petition process is being overused others say there is no such thing as too much democracy. Details, fate of ballot questions from 1911 through present.
