Abstract

Maine's lobster catch has exceeded 30 million pounds twice during the last three years, and expectations are that another good season is under way. Prices are relatively stable, with lobster commanding $10 per pound in a Los Angeles supermarket. Maine's lobster-boat fleet is 4,000 strong, and with more than 2 million lobster traps crowding the ocean floor some observers wonder how long the lobster stock can be harvested at the current rate.
