Abstract

State wildlife officials yesterday rescued an 800-pound moose from a rock quarry in Rockland. The animal, trapped on a piece of level land near the quarry's edge, jumped off the ledge into the water below after being tranquilized. After getting the moose back to land, a crane lifted it to treetop level, at which point the crane tipped over. A forklift was used to get the moose into a truck, and officials took it to a marshy area for release.
